Students Selected to All-State Band and Chorus

ANKENY, Iowa (October 24, 2017) - Eight students from Ankeny High School have attained the highest individual honor available to Iowa high school musicians by being selected as members of the All-State Band or Chorus.
- All-State Chorus: Cameron Shidler, Taylor Anthofer, Britney Miller, Madyson Hensley
- All-State Band: Kenidy Moeller, Emma St. Clair, Grant Bielecki, Mary Wieczorek
- Alternates for All-State Band: Lauren Palkovic, Marianna Elia
"We are very proud of all the vocalists and instrumentalists who ventured through the All-State audition process," said Joel Poppen, head instrumental music instructor at Ankeny High School. "All of our students got better because of it."
The 2017 Festival will celebrate the 71st anniversary of this prestigious event. District auditions for the 281-piece All-State Band, 201-piece All-State Orchestra, and 601-member All-State Chorus were October 21 at Indianola, Storm Lake, Hampton, Manchester, Atlantic, and Washington. Approximately 17% of the students who audition are selected for membership in the All-State ensembles.
The Festival Concert will be presented November 18, 7:30 p.m. at Iowa State University's Hilton Coliseum in Ames. Iowa Public Television will record the concert for re-broadcast. Please check the IPTV website for the exact dates and times. This program is under the auspices of the Iowa High School Music Association and the Iowa Music Educators Association.
Directors of the AHS band are Joel Poppen and Jennifer Williams. Ben Walters and Mackenzie Walsh are directors of the AHS choral music program.
