ANKENY, Iowa (December 11, 2017) - A team of Southview eighth graders finished first out of 67 teams from across the state, and fourth nationally out of 248 schools, in the online Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl competition. This is the first time in school history that a team from Ankeny has won this competition at the national level.
"Wow! I'm very proud of the team for meeting their goal of winning the state crown."said Coach Nathan Coombes.
The online tests are self-scoring and assessed by a computer. The tournament consists of 100 multiple choice questions on the following subjects: math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature and English.
Team members include Emily Byrnes, Emma Caruso, Brenna Coleman, Thomas Dao, Francesca Elia, Griffith Gade, Blake Ganpat, Hudson Griffin, Michael Hayden, Hunter Hulling, Kian Wing, Philip Na, Jocelyn Riley, Avery Rozinek, Logan Weathers, Brandon Williams, Hunter Yeatts, Mason Yeatts, Lexi Gibson and Ethan Thomas.
