New ACHS Activities/Athletic Director

Scott Garvis


ANKENY, Iowa (February 6, 2018) - On February 5, the Ankeny Board of Education approved hiring Scott Garvis as the Director of Activities/Athletics for Ankeny Centennial High School.


Mr. Garvis is currently the Assistant Principal and Director of Athletics and Activities at Newton High School in Newton, Iowa.  In his nearly 20-year career, Garvis has been a football coach and activities director at the high school and college level in Iowa, Minnesota, and Washington.


"Mr. Garvis possesses the vision and leadership to continue Ankeny Schools excellent athletics and activities,” said Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston, Superintendent.  “In addition, he has a proven track record of success encouraging student-athletes to excel in the classroom."


"My wife Jayne and I are very excited and humbled to be joining the Ankeny Jaguars family," said Mr. Garvis.  "Ankeny Centennial has established a great tradition of excellence in academics, activities, and athletics and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve this great organization."

Mr. Garvis was named a finalist for the 2014-2015 National High School Athletic Coaches Association Athletic Director of the Year.  He was named the 2015-2016 Iowa High School Athletic Director Association Central Iowa Athletic Director of the Year, and received the 2015-2016 and 2017-2018 National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA) Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association (IHSADA) Distinguished Service Award and received the 2016-2017 IHSADA National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Citation Award. Mr. Garvis was also awarded the prestigious Ken Beverlein Award by the Iowa High School Athletic Directors Association which is in recognition of meritorious service.


Mr. Garvis is originally from Worthington, Minnesota and is married to Jayne Garvis.  The couple has three children Grant, Alexandra, and Brooke.


He will officially join the district July 1. Prior to July, Garvis will collaborate with retiring activities director Tom Kinseth, as well as others in the district, toward a smooth transition.
