Congratulations to the Ankeny Centennial High School band program!

The ACHS symphonic band, ACHS wind symphony, and Northview ninth-grade concert band all won first place and received Division I "Superior" ratings at the 2018 Festivals of Music at Harper College in Chicago.

In addition, the Northview band was named “Best Middle School Band” and the ACHS wind symphony was awarded the William D. Revelli Award for "Best High School Band."  The overall band program was awarded the “Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser Esprit de Corps Award” which recognizes participating organizations which display an exemplary attitude of positive support and outstanding personal behavior. Unlike the other trophies that focus on the musical achievement, this coveted prize spotlights the performance of the students throughout the festival weekend as they demonstrate their highest-level of responsible behavior. Personal integrity, quality-character values, a desire for excellence, and a spirit of cooperation serve as the cornerstone qualities of the Esprit de Corps award.

"While I could not be happier with how well the students performed at the festival, I was even more proud of the way that they represented their school and community while off the stage," said Scott Hook, Band Director.  "It was a fantastic trip and a great opportunity for the students to display their abilities and their character."

The band’s trip to Chicago also included a number of art-centered activities, including a trip to the Chicago Art Institute, a Chicago architecture tour, and performances of the Blue Man Group and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
