Ryan Named Northeast Principal

(ANKENY, Iowa) May 22, 2018 - On May 21, the Ankeny Board of Education approved hiring Laura Ryan as the new principal for Northeast Elementary.  Ryan is currently the School Administrative Manager at Southeast Elementary.

 

Laura has demonstrated the ability to make a difference in student’s lives, as well as in academic achievement in her current position at Southeast,” said Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston, Superintendent of Schools. “She is a proven leader who has an evident passion for students and their families.”

 

“It is with great pleasure and anticipation that I begin my journey as principal at Northeast Elementary.  It is obvious from my time spent at Northeast that the students, parents, and staff are proud of their school and the work that they have accomplished,” said Ryan.  “I am honored to join the Northeast team and look forward to continuing their mission of achieving both academic excellence, as well as social and emotional success for all students.”

 

Ryan began with the Ankeny Community School District in 2014 where she served as an Instructional Coach at Southeast Elementary.  Previously, she taught first, second, and third grades at Findley Elementary in Des Moines. She served as a Title Reading Teacher at Woodlawn Elementary, also in Des Moines.  Ryan received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Des Moines School Board.

 

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Reading Endorsement from Upper Iowa University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.  In addition, she earned her Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University.

 

Ryan is originally from Moville, Iowa.  She has been married to her husband Pat for 23 years.  Together they have three children ages 14-18. She has been active in  her children’s activities by coaching an Odyssey of the Mind team, teaching Sunday school, and coaching softball on-and-off the past several years.

 

Ryan will officially begin her new role July 1, 2018.  She succeeds Ms. Tara Owen, who will be the principal at Southeast Elementary.
