One of 11 Selected Across Iowa
ANKENY, Iowa (September 26, 2018) - An Ankeny High School student is one of 11 female athletes across the state chosen for the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s (IGHSAU) newly-formed student-athlete advisory council.
Junior Jasmine Rumley was selected for the honor and is a decorated swimmer, track athlete, and softball player for the Hawks. The committee is comprised of female student-athletes representing various school sizes across Iowa. Two female athletes from each of the state's four districts (NE, SE, NW, SW), along with three "at-large" representatives were selected to two-year terms. The group will meet on issues related to girls high school athletic activities in Iowa.
“Jasmine exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete,” said Brent Buttjer, AHS Activities Director. “I am confident she will serve as an outstanding ambassador and leader for Iowa’s female athletes.”
Council members will act as a sounding board for the IGHSAU Representative Council and Board of Directors. The group will also assist in the promotion of the educational values of interscholastic athletics. The committee will discuss and provide feedback for issues dealing with sportsmanship, safety, student leadership, and participation.
