ANKENY, Iowa (October 19, 2018) - The Ankeny Community School District continues to flourish, with no signs of growth stopping anytime soon.  The district remains the sixth largest in the state, with enrollment numbers a couple thousand behind Iowa City, the fifth largest district in Iowa.  According to the Iowa Department of Education, the Ankeny School District 2018-2019 certified enrollment is 11,978.02, an increase of 429.31 students from last year.

In the last five years, enrollment in the Ankeny district has grown 1,913 students. In the past ten years, the student population has increased by 3,635 students.  Ankeny’s enrollment projections indicate continued growth of nearly 2,000 students by the 2021-2022 school year.

The growth leads to a number of facility needs with the next elementary slated to begin construction this spring in the Prairie Trail development. In the coming years, the district will also construct additions to both high schools and pursue a 12th elementary building.

“No matter how many children enroll in the district,  our commitment and focus remain on each student,” said Dr. Bruce A. Kimpston, Ankeny School District Superintendent.  “Our priority is to continue the level of academic excellence our community has come to expect, as well as seeking new and innovative ways to give Ankeny graduates an advantage to prepare them to achieve a lifetime of personal success.”
