Before and After School Program Helps Those in Need

The Before and After School Program (B/ASP) donated more than 200 personal care kits for those in need, thanks to the generous donations of many B/ASP families and the hard work of students.

This year, the B/ASP partnered with the Bidwell Riverside Center.  Students learned about the center and the many ways it helps those who are less fortunate by providing food, shelter, clothing, and other supplies to adults and children.  Students assembled personal care kits and created positive notes to slip inside.

The B/ASP has created a tradition of hosting a Greatness in Giving camp the day before Thanksgiving, partnering with a variety of non-profit organizations.

"Staff and students have come to look forward to this camp every year," said Nancy Jeffs, B/ASP manager.  "Our community partnerships and the generosity of our families allow us to incorporate hands-on service learning that provides students with the opportunity to make a difference while learning the importance of service and giving back."

"It feels happy to help someone in need," said Holden Broadston, Westwood Elementary student.
