Fourth State Title

ANKENY, Iowa (December 5, 2018) - The Ankeny High School winter guard took home their fourth state title in Class III Color Guard during the annual Iowa State Drill Team Association Competition (ISDTA).  The AHS team competed against eight other schools in their class, earning a Division I Superior rating and first place.

The winterguard also earned a Judges’ Choice Award for their performance.  The judges choose three routines that they simply enjoyed as one of their favorites. It could be the theme, the energy, the entertainment value, the costuming, or many components which made the performance stand out that day.

“The ability of this group to perform such a difficult show at the level they did demonstrates the fact that there is something special about this group of students,” said choreographer and coach Darrin Mell. “They are extremely dedicated and hard-working and their success is due in large part to their commitment to the process and their love of what they do.”

Members of the winter guard include: Abigail Bielecki, Lily Bretthauer, Emma Caruso, Mackenzie Halbur, Sydney Moberg, Elisabeth Poock, Megan McGuire, Kyle Monteverdie, Olivia Johnson, Dasha Toth, Jensen Allen, Anna Escherich, Claire McGohan, Emily Peterson, Molly Wick, Riley Venn, Abi Coglizer, Rachel Heitz, Lexi Higar, Savanna Scholl, and Joe Cave.

Coaches for the AHS winter guard are Darrin Mell and Jennifer Williams.
