ANKENY, Iowa (January 3, 2019) - More than 115 students enjoyed a flurry of activity this winter break at the district’s Before & After School Program Winter Adventures Camp. Along with recreation, team building, and field trips, students engaged in hands-on, fun, disguised-learning activities through enrichment labs focused on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math). The labs included exploration behind the science of snowflakes and symmetry; creating 3-D snowflakes, learning about polymers while making snow slime, and thinking like an engineer to design, build, and test a free-standing skier.
To close out camp and ring in the New Year, students reflected on 2018 by creating time capsules that included a self-portrait, list of favorites, proud moments from the past year, what they aspire to be when they grow up, and goals for 2019.
