ANKENY, Iowa (September 19, 2016) - The Transition
Alliance Program (TAP) at Ankeny Centennial High School and Ankeny High School hosted a construction simulator from Hawkeye Community College. TAP is a partnership program between
Ankeny Schools and Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, who sponsored this
both AHS and ACHS had the chance to try five different simulators: bulldozer, excavator, welder, backhoe, and land grader. The main goal of the simulator was to provide exposure to the
construction field, as it relates to a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) career. A representative from
DMACC also provided information regarding programs they offer in this
"Students enjoyed the experience and for some
it solidified their choice in a future career," said Nicki Simonis, TAP Coordinator.
TAP will conduct
follow-up informational sessions for interested students with a lunch and
learn opportunity from an outside construction agency, as well as a webinar.
