The Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association (IGCA) has announced retired AHS volleyball coach Dave Whims will be inducted into its 2016 Volleyball Coaches and Officials Hall of Fame. The ceremony on November 19 is part of the Senior All-Star Weekend in Carroll, Iowa.
Dave Whims was head coach in Ankeny from 1978-2014, he also coached at Walnut Ridge Academy, Bedford, and North Kossuth. During his 37 years of coaching, Dave compiled a 982-158-7 record and led teams to the state tournament 21 times. He won four state championships while at Ankeny. He finished runner-up four times, three with Ankeny and once with North Kossuth. Dave was named Iowa State Volleyball Coach of the Year four times. He was National Volleyball Coach of the year finalist in 2014 and was selected to the National High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2014.
