Meals from the Market - Multiple Opportunities

We are looking for volunteers for Meals From the Market downtown Des Moines. We have 3 dates we’re helping out with the Farmers Market. The dates are 05/20/17, 08/26/17 and 09/23/17. In the past we have had school groups, cheerleaders, student council and students of the schools help with the donations. It can range from 3 people on up.
The volunteers usually arrive around 11:15 or 11:30 (or earlier if they want to shop). We go around to the vendor with carts and pick up perishable goods such as bread, cheese, vegetables etc. and bring back to DMARC food truck. We are done by 12:30 loading the truck and are finished for the day. Again, any volunteer or group would be great. I have included the outline of the program below. Please let me know if this would be of interest and we can get a schedule together.

In its seventh year, Meals from the Market sponsored by Great Western Bank offers vendors and patrons an opportunity to give back to the community by providing fresh food to the homeless and hungry in central Iowa. The program is a collaborative effort between Great Western Bank, Hope Ministries, Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) and the Downtown Farmers’ Market.
Meals from the Market program will be open to collect donations from both market vendors and patrons at a booth located at Second and Court avenues on the north side of the street. Volunteers will take collections every Saturday through Oct. 28 from 8:00 a.m. – Noon. After the Market, the fresh food is then taken to Hope Ministries and DMARC where the food contributions are committed to creating meals to feed the hungry in our community and also sent to 13 central Iowa food pantry sites.
Market vendors, patrons, and the entire community are invited to help with this effort. Any type of food donation will be accepted and appreciated. Because the donation is going to Hope Ministries and/or DMARC, it is tax deductible and receipts will be available upon request. Acceptable food donations include: produce, baked goods, canned goods, and prepared food – nearly everything you will find at the Market. Home gardeners and bakers who find themselves with extra are also encouraged to donate to the program.
