Ankeny Schools Welcomes Dr. Amy Dittmar as the Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services

Dr. Amy Dittmar will begin as Assistant Superintendent of Academic Services on July 1.

Ankeny Schools welcomes Dr. Amy Dittmar as the Assistant Superintendent for Academic Services beginning July 2023.

Dr. Dittmar brings dynamic leadership from a nearly 30-year career in education as she takes the helm of the district’s academic programming.  Having previously served the district for 10 years in leadership positions, Dr. Dittmar will join the team once again to provide vision, leadership, and management to maximize student learning within the district. 

Dr. Dittmar has always demonstrated a commitment to students and the educators and staff on her team,” said Dr. Erick Pruitt, Superintendent of Schools.  “I’m excited that Dr. Dittmar will be leading the ongoing academic improvement of our district.

From 2017-2022, Dr. Dittmar served as the Director of Elementary Schools for Ankeny. Through her work, she provided guidance to elementary administrators, supported the district’s curriculum review process, and oversaw the implementation of standard work for the district. Since then, Dittmar has been with the Franklin Covey team, providing training in leadership development and coaching school districts throughout the Midwest. 

“I am excited for the opportunity to return to a district that is passionate and committed to providing a positive educational experience for all students.  I look forward to partnering with the entire school community in achieving the district mission,” said Dr. Dittmar. 

Dittmar has previously held principal positions at Westwood Elementary (Ankeny, IA) and Armstrong Elementary (St. Louis, MO). She began her career in Missouri and Texas, teaching fourth and fifth-grade students. Dittmar is an Ankeny Leadership Institute alumni, and under her leadership, her schools have received an Exceptional Rating on the Iowa School Report Card, PBIS Iowa School of Honor, and PBIS Missouri School of Excellence.  Personally,  Dr. Dittmar has been recognized as a St. Louis 30 Leaders in their 30’s, Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Sallie Mae Outstanding New Teacher of the Year. 

Dr. Dittmar graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, and a doctorate of education in educational leadership from Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri.

Originally from Washington, Iowa, Dr. Dittmar is married to Brad. The couple has three children, Zoe, Olivia, and Drake.

Dr. Dittmar steps into the position as Dr. Jen Lindaman retires after serving in leadership positions with Ankeny Schools for more than 25 years.
