Literacy Amanda Bowie

Hello! I am one of the literacy teachers on the  6 Gold team at Parkview Middle School.

My first year of teaching began in 2000 at Clarke Community School District in Osceola, IA as a 1st-grade teacher. After that year, I moved to Westwood Elementary in Ankeny teaching 1st and 2nd graders for a combined eleven years. When Prairie Trail Elementary opened, I was a part of the 2nd grade team for 3 years. In 2015, I transitioned from teaching at the elementary level to middle school, all here at Parkview.

In 2000, I graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Eight years later, I earned a master’s degree in education from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, WI.  My teaching endorsements include K-8 reading, K-8 math, K-12 reading specialist, 5-8 middle school language arts, and 5-8 middle school math.

One of my goals as an educator is to welcome my students into a classroom where they feel safe to make mistakes as they learn. Reading is a passion of mine, and I truly believe a student who doesn’t enjoy reading has not found that one book yet!

My son graduated in 2022 from Ankeny High School, and we are proud to call Ankeny home. Traveling, golfing, reading, yoga, as well as spending time with my family, friends, and pets are some of my hobbies. I am looking forward to a great school year! Go Hawks!
