District Mentoring Specialist Justin Herrick

Hello, my name is Justin Herrick and I am Ankeny’s District Mentoring Specialist.

I am a native Iowan (Charles City), and I have taught English in grades 7-12th before transitioning to supporting mentors and new teachers in the district. In 2009 I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English with an Education Endorsement from Wartburg College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Morningside College in 2015, and a PhD in Education from Drake University in 2023. Apart from teaching, I enjoy training and racing marathons and triathlons, hiking and fishing, and spending time with my wife (Danna), daughters (Murphy & Marnie), and Goldendoodle (Hawi).

As a lifelong learner, I strive to challenge both teachers and students to build their capacities to get the most out of themselves.
