Language Arts Kelcy Lofgren

My name is Kelcy Lofgren, and I teach Fundamentals of Oral Communication (a DMACC course) in the morning. I love teaching this class because the curriculum is always relevant–communication skills impact our professional and personal lives. In the afternoon, I serve as Language Arts academic interventionist for students in grades ten through twelve. In this role, I work with students to close skill gaps in the areas of reading and writing. It is always rewarding to see students’ academic growth. Fun facts to know and tell about me: I graduated from the University of Iowa in 1993 and completed my master’s degree in Communication Education from the University of Northern Iowa in 1999. In 2004, I became a National Board Certified Teacher, and I recertified in 2014. The best part of my job is working with students; it is a privilege to help students recognize their own potential as they develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
