Specials Mary Bartemes

Welcome! My name is Mary Bartemes and I am so excited to be teaching at East Elementary and Crocker Elementary this year.   I taught elementary music for one year in Indianola before taking on the role of Assistant Choral Director at Dowling Catholic High School for four years. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with elementary students again.

I earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Drake University in 2014, and have been trained in 2 levels of the Kodaly Methodology at Drake as well. My primary instruments are voice and piano, but I also like to play the ukulele and drums for fun.

In my free time I enjoy doing yoga, painting, going on walks, and spending time with my son and husband at home.

I firmly believe (and research shows) that all people are innately musical.  It is my passion to help others find ways to explore creativity through music. Music is for everyone, and we will learn many ways to experience music in the classroom this year.
