Preschool Teacher Patrick Hurley

Welcome to our classroom!  My Name is PJ Hurley (Mr. PJ) and I am extremely excited to be able to spend this coming school year with your child.

I am a lifelong learner.  I received my first B.A. in Drama/Costume Design in 1988.  I completed my Elementary Education degree from William Penn University in 2013 with endorsements in Reading K-8, Strategist I K-8, and English as a Second Language K-12.  I obtained my Masters in teaching Effectiveness and Professional Development in 2016 from Drake University.  I attained my Strategist II Behavior Disability/Learning Disability endorsement in 2017 from Morningside College.  I completed my Early Childhood Endorsement from Upper Iowa University in 2018.

I have been teaching in the Ankeny Community School District since the 2012-2013 school year.  I love teaching children new ideas and truly believe that all children can and will learn.  Some of my best strategies for teaching and learning is through self-discovery, socialization, and project based learning.

When I am not teaching I spend time with my family which consists of my spouse and our 9 grown adult children plus in-law children, and  grandchildren, with our min-pin Kia.  I enjoy gardening, home improvements, and sewing.
