Earth Day at Parkview Middle School

A group of students from Mrs. Bleeker’s 7th grade Science class at Parkview Middle School applied for the Trees for Kids Grant Program from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The grant program serves to educate K-12 and college students in Iowa about the importance of trees through tree planting events at schools and on public land. Grant recipients are awarded up to $2,500 per project to purchase trees from Iowa nurseries. The mulch and compost were picked up by Parkview parents from the City of Ankeny.

In honor of Earth Day 2023 Parkview families and DNR staff members planted, mulched, and watered their new trees around the school grounds. “It was so exciting to be able to plant 8 trees, something I have always wanted to do my whole teaching career,” said Mrs. Bleeker. The Parkview students hope to learn more about the environment and how they can make a positive impact by planting trees. They are excited about the opportunity to contribute to the local ecosystem and promote sustainability in their community.
