Ankeny High School Bands Earn Prestigious Performance Invitations at UNI and IBA Conferences

AHS band to UNI

The Ankeny High School 11-12 Band has received an exclusive invitation to participate in the University of Northern Iowa Invitational Wind Band Clinic on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. This event is reserved for outstanding high school bands recognized for their excellence in music education and performance. Only three bands were selected to attend, and Ankeny’s program was chosen in acknowledgment of its remarkable achievements.

The clinic will take place in the impressive 1500-seat Great Hall of the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center at the University of Northern Iowa. Throughout the afternoon, the band will engage in workshops and culminate the day with an evening concert featuring West Liberty High School, Marion High School, and the UNI Wind Ensemble.

Furthermore, the Ankeny High School 11-12 Concert Band has been designated to perform at the 97th Annual Iowa Bandmasters Association Conference on May 10, 2024, in Des Moines. Each year, bands from across Iowa submit audition recordings for blind evaluation and selection. Ankeny’s band was chosen as one of the 4A bands for the Young Conductor clinic. Their performance will take place at 9:30 AM in the Catholic Pastoral Center downtown as part of the conference.

The Ankeny 11-12 Concert Band is led by Jennifer Williams, with additional faculty including Kelly Weber, Nathan Newhard, Crystal Rumbaugh, Christian Baughman, and Pam Hayden.
