 Upcoming Event!

Warming Up for Winter!

In November, there is a community-wide event where Ankeny students and their families can receive free winter outerwear. Items ranging in size from toddler- adult XXL, are distributed on a first come first served basis. Prior to the distribution event, there is a district wide collection effort. Each school in the district is a drop off site for families and community members to donate new or gently used coats, snow pants, hats, and gloves/mittens. In 2023 over 500 items were provided thanks to generous support of the community and volunteers!

Program Overview

Project Fresh Start (PFS) is a program within the Community Engagement Department that provides free school supplies and winter outerwear to students who attend Ankeny schools. By addressing students’ essential needs, PFS aims to ensure they are prepared for learning. Supported by community donations—both monetary and in-kind—the department hosts two annual events to distribute these items to students and their families.

Project Fresh Start began in 2004 and has served more than 10,000 students.

Backpack Blitz (Free School Supplies)

In August, there is an event providing free school supplies and backpacks to students in grades PreK-12 that reside in Ankeny. Families do not need to pre-register for the event, items are given on a first come, first served basis. The event also showcases a resource fair where attendees can learn more about local organizations and resources. Thanks to generous donations, volunteer efforts, and additional support from ACSD staff, over 900 students were served in 2024.
